Waitangi Treaty House & Grounds


New Zealand’s most important historic site is just a short distance from the Bay of Islands’ main town of Paihia. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds is where Maori Chiefs first signed their accord with the British Crown – known as the Treaty of Waitangi on February the 6th 1840.

The Treaty Grounds feature the historic Treaty house, the Maori meeting house and a very impressive ceremonial war canoe.

You can choose from general admission to the grounds, a guided tour, a cultural performance or if you would to enjoy a traditional Maori Feast then there is the option to enjoy a Hangi and Concert. (the Hangi And Concert is available Wednesdays and Saturdays during the New Zealand Summer)
